HemogloBind™ Cited in Pesticide Toxicology Study of Post-Mortem Changes in Blood

MONMOUTH JUNCTION, NJ, January 23, 2021 -- Biotech Support Group reports on a journal article describing the simplicity and efficiency of their HemogloBind™ sample preparation technology for the analysis of the pesticide methomyl, and its Hemoglobin derivatives. The citation is:

Yamagishi, Yoshikazu, Hirotaro Iwase, and Yasumitsu Ogra. "Post-Mortem Changes of Methomyl in Blood with Hemoglobin." Chemical Research in Toxicology.

BSG_Figure 1_Schematic diagram of fractionation of blood componentsMethomyl is a widely used pesticide that has been detected in many fatal cases of accidental exposure or suicide. Forensic toxicologists have been baffled that the blood methomyl concentration in persons who have died of methomyl poisoning is much lower than the expected concentration in blood. In this study, the researchers considered specific methomyl hemoglobin adducts detected by liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-Q/TOF-MS). To help isolate Hemoglobin, the article states “Hb was separated with HemogloBind in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.” The authors conclude that one Hemoglobin derivative, the W-adduct could be used as a biomarker of methomyl poisoning.

I am very pleased that our users have found still another application for HemogloBind™, this time in the isolation of Hemoglobin for more in-depth analysis. Its simple protocol and compatibility with liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-Q/TOF-MS) makes this possible.” states Swapan Roy, Ph.D., President and Founder of Biotech Support Group.
