Methomylis a widely used pesticide that has been detected in many fatal casesof accidental exposure or suicide. Forensic toxicologists have beenbaffled that the blood methomyl concentration in persons who havedied of methomyl poisoning is much lower than the expectedconcentration in blood. In this study, the researchers consideredspecific methomyl hemoglobin adducts detected by liquidchromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry(LC-Q/TOF-MS). To help isolate Hemoglobin, the article states “Hbwas separated with HemogloBind in accordance with the manufacturer’sinstructions.” The authors conclude that one Hemoglobin derivative,the W-adduct could be used as a biomarker of methomyl poisoning.
