Unregulated,systemic inflammation negatively impacts health and production indairy cows. Soluble mediators and platelets have been studied fortheir expansive role in mediating inflammation. The objectives ofthis study were to compare the plasma oxylipin and endocannabinoidprofiles, and the platelet and plasma proteomic profiles of healthycows to cows experiencing elevated systemic inflammation as indicatedby plasma haptoglobin (Hp) concentrations. The article states “Plasmasamples were depleted of albumin using AlbuSorb™ Plus Albumin andIgG depletion Kit (APK285-20, BioTech Support Group, MonmouthJunction, NJ), following the manufacturer’s instructions.” Intotal, 1,016 proteins were identified in the plasma proteome.Proteomic outputs from plasma revealed 24 proteins to be differentbetween high and low-inflammation groups, including proteins involvedin autophagy and immune mediation. Together, the results indicatethat cows experiencing an exacerbated systemic inflammatory responsein the postpartum may have impaired disease resistance, and plateletscould be contributors to their inflammatory state.
