Research article employed HemogloBind™ to remove analytical interferences due to Hemoglobin

MONMOUTH JUNCTION, NJ, January 9, 2023 -- Biotech Support Group reports on a journal article describing the simplicity and efficiency of HemogloBind™, Hemoglobin depletion technology for removing analytical interferences, in the measurement of Acetylcholinesterase and Butyryl cholinesterase activity. The citation is:

Witchey, Shannah K., et al. "Reproductive and developmental toxicity following exposure to organophosphate ester flame retardants and plasticizers, triphenyl phosphate and isopropylated phenyl phosphate, in Sprague Dawley rats." Toxicological Sciences (2022). https://doi.org/10.1093/toxsci/kfac135

Two organophosphate esters used as flame retardants and plasticizes, triphenyl phosphate (TPHP) and isopropylated phenyl phosphate (IPP), have been detected in environmental samples around the world. This study evaluated the potential risk of exposure to either compound during fetal development in Sprague Dawley rats. The investigators used HemogloBind™ to reduce interferences associated with Hemoglobin in whole blood lysates; the article stating “Blood samples…were analyzed for Acetylcholinesterase and Butyryl cholinesterase activity…Briefly, 80 µl of each whole blood sample was diluted with720 µl of Millipore water mixed with 800 µl of HemogloBind™”.The article concludes that in offspring, both TPHP and IPP-related toxicity reduced bodyweights, delayed pubertal endpoints, and/or reduced cholinesterase enzyme activity. These findings demonstrate that rat offspring development is sensitive to 1000 ppm TPHP or IPP exposure.

The large amount of hemoglobin in many samples presents a special challenge for quantitative analysis. This article illustrates the efficiency of HemogloBind™ to reduce the interference associated with large concentrations of hemoglobin, without compromising the recovery, function and analysis of the protein(s) being measured. This study used rats for analysis, so demonstrating another important feature of our product line, that is our products are species agnostic, not confined to one species.” states Swapan Roy, Ph.D., President and Founder of Biotech Support Group.
