ResearchArticle Cites HemogloBind™ in Malaria Study of Reticulocytes
MONMOUTHJUNCTION, NJ, July31, 2018 --Biotech Support Group reports on a recent research article describingthesimplicity and efficiency of their hemoglobin depletion technologyfor improving Western blot analysis from reticulocytes. The citationis:
Junqueira,Caroline, et al. "CytotoxicCD8+ T cells recognize and kill Plasmodium vivax–infectedreticulocytes." Naturemedicine(2018):1.
TheMalaria parasite Plasmodiumvivax causesapproximately 100 million clinical cases yearly. The basis ofprotective immunity is poorly understood yet thought to be mediatedby antibodies. The authors hypothesized that CD8+T Cells in patient with P.vivax malaria mightbecome activated by recognizing P.vivax-infectedreticulocytes (iRetics), causing them to degranulate. Toevaluate the expression levels of proteins involved in antigenpresentationinreticulocytes by Western blot, thearticle states “Cell lysates of reticulocytes…were analyzed byimmunoblot…after hemoglobin removal using HemogloBind™ (BiotechSupport Group)”. The authors conclude that P.vivax rendersreticulocytes granulysin-susceptible and that this unexpected T Celldefense might be mobilized to improve vaccines.
“Thelarge amount of hemoglobin in whole blood presents a specialchallenge for quantitative Western blot analysis. Here is anotherarticle demonstrating that HemogloBind™ can reduce the interferenceassociated with large concentrations of hemoglobin, withoutcompromising the recovery and analysis of the protein of interest.”states Swapan Roy, Ph.D., President and Founder of Biotech SupportGroup.
