ResearchArticle Cites HemoVoid™ in Red Blood Cell Proteome Study

MONMOUTHJUNCTION, NJ, January23, 2017 -- Biotech Support Group reports on a recent researcharticledescribingthe simplicity and efficiency of their hemoglobin depletiontechnology for enriching the red cell sub-proteome, from human redblood cells. The citation is:

Feliciano,Amélia, et al. "Evening and morning alterations inObstructive Sleep Apnea red blood cell proteome." Datain Brief(2017). http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.dib.2017.01.005

Inbrief, using proteomics-based evaluation of red blood cells (RBC),the authors identified differentially abundant proteins associatedwith Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSA). Proteome variationsbetween various time points were assessed. The article states “RBCcytoplasmic fraction depleted of hemoglobin, using Hemovoid™system, were analyzed by two-dimensional fluorescence difference gelelectrophoresis (2D-DIGE), the 2D image software-based analyzed andrelevant differentially abundant proteins identified by massspectrometry (MS)”. The authors conclude that 31protein spotswere differentially abundant, corresponding to 21 unique proteinspossibly due to the existence of post-translational modifications.

Thisarticle illustrates the importance of removing hemoglobin in order toperform proteomic analysis of red cells. The ability to enrich forthe underlying sub-proteome which would normally mask many proteinsfrom red cells is a unique feature of HemoVoid™. That manydifferentially regulated proteins were identified demonstrates itsusefulness in proteomic investigations” states Swapan Roy,Ph.D., President and Founder of Biotech Support Group.
