Journal Article Cites HemogloBind™ in Research on Human Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms MONMOUTH JUNCTION, NJ, November 30, 2015 — Biotech Support Group reports on a journal article reports which describe the simplicity and efficiency of their proteomic sample preparation technology for hemoglobin depletion. The citation is: Rubio-Navarro et al. Hemoglobin induces monocyte recruitment and CD163-macrophage polarization in abdominal aortic aneurysm. International Journal of Cardiology 201 (2015) 66–78. Hemoglobin (Hb) is a strong oxidant catalyst that could lead to cell damage in the arterial wall. To restrain these harmful effects, Hb is cleared by CD163, a scavenger receptor present on the surface of circulating monocytes and tissue macrophages. A soluble form of CD163 (sCD163) has been also reported in plasma. The role of Hb on monocyte recruitment and differentiation towards CD163 expressing macrophages in human abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) was investigated. The authors conclude that the presence of Hb in the adventitial AAA-wall promotes the migration and differentiation of activated circulating monocytes in AAA patients, as such effects were partially suppressed when Hb was removed by the use of HemogloBind™. The article states “Conditioned medium from healthy aortas or AAA samples were treated with HemogloBind™ reagent (Biotech Support Group LLC) according to the manufacturer’s protocol for hemoglobin depletion. HemogloBind™ is a polyelectrolyte mixture designed to selectively bind hemoglobin from biological fluids.”. “This report illustrates the essential features of HemogloBind™, that the selectivity profile is exquisite and that after Hemoglobin removal – bio-activity, as exemplified by cellular response, remains.” states Swapan Roy, Ph.D., President and Founder of Biotech Support Group.
