AlbuSorb™ Cited in Study of Quality Assessment in Cell Manufacturing
MONMOUTH JUNCTION, NJ, April 21, 2026 — Biotech Support Group (BSG), a pioneer in proteomics sample preparation, reports on the use of AlbuSorb™ in a sensing platform for comprehensive quality assessment of complex culture media in cell manufacturing. Led by researchers at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in Japan, the study investigated a data-driven polymeric sensing platform that employs an array of synthetic polymer probes to generate fluorescence-response fingerprints, enabling the statistical detection of subtle compositional differences in complex biological mixtures. The sensing platform detects quality variations in serum-free supplements for stem-cell culture and naturally derived supplements used for microbial culture
Fingerprint measurements using Albumin Depletion
Traditionally, serum, particularly fetal bovine serum (FBS), has been widely used as a supplement due to its high content of essential components such as growth factors, cytokines, and vitamins. Especially within FBS, albumin is the most abundant protein and therefore was expected to substantially influence the sensor. To directly examine this contribution, albumin-depletion experiments using AlbuSorb™was performed. This was validated for use with 6 different species (bovine, human, sheep, goat, mouse, rat), by comparing fingerprints before and after depletion. Albumin removal reduced fluorescence reporter responses across most probes, with the magnitude varying considerably by probe and species
The study concludes that this versatile sensing platform is robust and reproducible for proactive quality assessment in cell manufacturing, supporting the reliable production of cell-based products
Species-Agnostic Sample Prep for Better Data
A significant advantage of the AlbuSorb™ line is its chemical-based depletion mechanism. Unlike immuno-affinity kits that are often restricted to human samples, BSG products are effective across all species.
“This reference demonstrates that AlbuSorb™ is highly selective for depleting albumin, enabling precise fingerprint comparisons of proteins from six different species,” stated Dr. Swapan Roy, President and Founder of Biotech Support Group. “It is another excellent example of how our products perform across all species, as they do not rely on antibody-based capture.”
