AlbuSorb™ PLUS Enables Systems Biology Discovery in Colchicine Cardiovascular Study

MONMOUTH JUNCTION, NJ, March 16, 2026 — Biotech Support Group (BSG), a pioneer in proteomics sample preparation, reports on the use of AlbuSorb™ PLUS in a groundbreaking study published in the European Journal of Pharmacology.

Led by researchers at the Universities of Dundee and Aberdeen, the study, “Colchicine acutely reduces liver-secreted inflammatory and metabolic proteins in blood,” investigates how colchicine—a common anti-inflammatory—impacts the systemic proteome to treat atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. 

Enhanced Protein Detection via Albumin and IgG Depletion

To achieve a deep systems biology view of the blood proteome, investigators utilized AlbuSorb™ PLUS to deplete high-abundance Albumin and Immunoglobulins (IgG). Removing these "masking" proteins is a critical step prior to quantitative Data Independent Acquisition (DIA) mass spectrometry, as it allows for the measurement of low-abundance biomarkers that would otherwise remain below the level of detection. 

In mice fed chow diet, the research identified colchicine suppression of three key liver-dependent pathways:

• Complement system

• Cholesterol metabolism

Species-Agnostic Sample Prep for Better Data

A significant advantage of the AlbuSorb™ product line is its synthetic ligand-based depletion mechanism. Unlike immuno-affinity kits that are often restricted to human samples, BSG products are effective across all species.
