Cleanascite™ Cited in Study of Tumor Associated Macrophage Cell Models

MONMOUTH JUNCTION, NJ, November 24, 2025 — Biotech Support Group (BSG) reports on use of its proprietary lipid removal reagent, Cleanascite™, to develop improved, translatable in vitro models for human Tumor Associated Macrophages (TAMs).

Researchers from AstraZeneca, authored an Article in Press entitled “Characterisation of human in vitro tumour-associated macrophage models to define translational relevance”. The study utilized Cleanascite™ as a lipid depletion method in tumor conditioned media (TCM) to establish whether lipids affected the ability of macrophages to suppress T-cell proliferation. Depletion of lipids from TCM confirmed that lipid factors are partly responsible for the polarization of TAMs towards a suppressive phenotype, and note several previous reports of strikingly similar responses from the use of Cleanascite™.

Cleanascite™ is now commonly used to clear lipids from conditioned media, to determine lipid influences on cellular models, in this case tumor associated macrophages. As a solid-phase suspension, Cleanascite™ is perfectly suited for such investigations using cell response assays such as reported here.” stated Dr. Swapan Roy, President and Founder of Biotech Support Group.
