Cleanascite™ Cited in Study of Adipocyte Lipids in the Tumor Microenvironment
MONMOUTH JUNCTION, NJ, November 18, 2025 — Biotech Support Group (BSG) reports on its proprietary lipid removal reagent, Cleanascite™, in a cell response study of CD8 + T cells in the tumor microenvironment.
Researchers from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, published an article entitled “Cancer-associated adipocytes mediate CD8 + T cell dysfunction via FGF21-driven lipolysis”, investigating whether fatty acids released by cancer-associated adipocytes (CAAs) are critical for CD8 + T cell exhaustion in the tumor microenvironment.
The article states “To determine whether fatty acids released by CAAs are critical for CD8 + T cell exhaustion, we depleted fatty acids from CAA conditioned medium with Cleanascite prior to incubation with CD8 + T cells. Strikingly, fatty acid depletion in CAA-conditioned medium resulted in decreased fatty acid uptake and lipid peroxidation in CD8 + T cells (Figure 2G). Accordingly, CAA-induced CD8 + T cell exhaustion was significantly attenuated (Figures 2H and S2G),
whereas the cytotoxic function of CD8 + T cells was notably recovered after fatty acid depletion (Figures 2I and S2H). These data suggest that fatty acids from CAAs are responsible for CD8 + T cell dysfunction.”
“Here is another excellent example of how Cleanascite™ can be used to clear lipids from conditioned media. Most importantly, this resulted in the identification of fatty acids as the determining driver for T cell exhaustion. As a solid-phase suspension, Cleanascite™ is perfectly suited to investigate lipid influences on cell response assays such as this.” stated Dr. Swapan Roy, President and Founder of Biotech Support Group.
